Psalm

A Psalm of the Rain

Shaped by the wonder of Job 5, the careful eye of Piper's meditation, and the ordered heavens of Enoch

Written by Keith

O Lord, You do great and unsearchable things;

Your wonders are beyond numbering.

You open the chambers of the heavens

and command the waters stored on high.

You appoint the angels to the treasuries of rain;

at Your word they open the doors.

The winds take up their burden

and carry the clouds across the sky.

Millions of pounds of water You lift from the sea,

yet You set them down as gentle drops.

You filter the salt, You measure the fall,

so the tender wheat is not crushed.

The earth drinks and is satisfied;

the fields awaken at Your kindness.

What we call ordinary

is the work of Your hands in secret.

Teach my heart to pause when the rain begins,

to see not only water but worship.

For every drop that falls is sent,

and every cloud moves at Your command.

Blessed be the Lord who waters the earth,

who keeps the storehouses full,

who remembers both the wilderness and the farm,

and gives rain in its appointed time.

Amen.
